That 70s Show

Job Stuff
So now that I have actually sent out some resume’s and had some interviews, I am a finalist in the three of the four positions that I put in for. The Four Seasons Hotel and two other teaching positions. There was a case manager, but they wanted someone with a counseling Masters Degree. Oh well. Anyway, I hope I can get one of those because I’m bored to tears.
The house should be done in two weeks. There were delays due to weather. I’m ready to move in though. I am going to Ikea this weekend to look for crap to put in there. I don’t need a lot, but just a few things here and there. I don’t really have anything specific that I need, but I like going there…there’s tons of stuff to at least look at.
I watched Night at the Museum last night. Though it had its campy parts, it was fairly good. It was funny and there was some clever humor. The best character…the statue dude hanging on the wall. If you’ve seen the movie, you know who I’m talking about…”Dumb dumb bring gum gum?” Hilarious!
aloft
Starwood Hotels and Resorts is coming out with two new brands, aloft and element. aloft will be based on the W concept and element is a concept based on Westin but will be an extended stay brand. I cannot wait for that brand to start. It’ll be a select-service brand, similar to Hilton Garden Inn and Courtyard by Marriott, only better. Click here to read more about it.
Getting Better
The more and more that I’m here, the more and more I like Houston. I’m still not thrilled that there’s no mass transit, but it’s getting better. I have four job interviews this week that I’m really excited about, so that’s good. There’s the Four Seasons Hotel as Hotel Assistant Manager, Teacher at a private Episcopal Montessori school, Resource teacher at a high school, and Case Manager at a high school. I wouldn’t mind any of them really. I think that I’m leaning towards the Montessori School. It would be for middle school, but it’s way different in private schools…so I guess that it wouldn’t be but so bad. I think that I’d be a great fit for a Montessori school. Here’s a link to the website for it. It’s worth checking out “classroom travel” under the “academics” tab.
So I’ve been going out with friends every Sunday, Monday, and Friday nights. It’s been fun. I’ve been able to find different places to hang out and explore. I’m dying to get back to Ikea once the house is complete. It’s soooo freakin’ big that I got lost the first time I was there. Ikea has some really crappy quality furniture, but you can’t beat it when it comes to getting stuff to put around your house.
Everything is still apparently bigger in Texas. I bought my first lotto ticket down here yesterday. It’s HUGE. I mean talk about wasting paper, it’s ridiculous. A few things that I have noticed are bigger other than the lotto ticket and Ikea are trucks and SUVs are still all the rage regardless of high gas prices, property taxes, Whataburger (my favorite fast food joint even though I gain twenty pounds just looking at the building), Sonic (seems like there’s one on every corner), and grocery stores. Notice, all of what is listed above as being bigger and apparently better, none of it is good for you and/or conveinient. Go figure.
Puddles
Yesterday, some friends and I went to the house to check on progress and all…it’s getting close. The final presentation will be pushed back because of all of the ice we’ve had lately. However, the cabinets are in, so that’s a good thing.
The highlight of my day was hearing someone say that the concrete was ground up. Well since it had rained, it was probably about two to three feet deep. I stepped in it the first time really without thinking about it and only put half my shoe in. However, you know when you step on something and lift up really fast and then once you see it’s okay you put your foot back down….yeah. I had water up to my knee and my foot went numb because the water was so freakin’ cold. I didn’t live it down for the rest of the day nor will I for a long time since pictures were taken. Stupid evidence.
Saving The Dollar Bills
For all of you that think that I can’t save money, I have just saved $306.91. I was at Home Depot the other day and saw the LG front-load washers and dryers stacked on top of each other! I almost had a heart attack…I was hoping that they would do something like that with full size appliances so I could use the space for something else. So I returned the ones that hadn’t been delivered yet to Best Buy (LG front-loads, but had the controls like a traditional washer and dryer on the back of the top part) and went to Home Depot and bought those for three hundred dollars more. However, I’m getting $175.00 back in Home Depot gift cards, which will be useful, as a special that they were running.
Then top of that, Home Depot will refund the difference and give you 10% of the original item cost if you can find the same items cheaper. So I went online when I got home and found them at Best Buy Online cheaper on sale. So I took that back and got the three hundred bucks back. So not only did I save money, I got something that I’ll like more, is more high-tech, AND saves space!!!! So see, I can save money!
